RFK STADIUM WELCOMES FANS FOR MLS CUP ON WORLD-CLASS SOCCER FIELD
Major League Soccer’s championship game returns to Nation’s Capital for 3rd time in 12 years
(Washington, DC) – RFK Stadium, home of D.C. United, will host the MLS Championship match this Sunday, November 18th at 12pm on RFK’s world-class soccer field. DC Sports & Entertainment Commission (DCSEC) and D.C. United plan to fill the stadium’s seats with cheering fans as defending MLS Cup Champions Houston Dynamo meet up with New England Revolution.
DCSEC has installed new, top quality turf and international style goals to provide the best possible playing conditions for the teams. The legendary clock has also been re-wrapped with the MLS Cup logo, promoting this League title match. RFK Stadium will be the first venue to host the championship event three times.
“While we would love to be watching our own D.C. United, it is especially great and exciting to be hosting the third MLS Cup Championship at our legendary stadium. Our staff and consultants worked hard to install a new, beautiful field for the play-off and championship games, and we are proud to showcase it before a national audience,” said Greg O’Dell, DCSEC CEO.
RFK Stadium has served as the home of four-time MLS Cup Champion D.C. United since its inception in 1996. The stadium’s storied bouncy seats, and nostalgic charm add to the authentic soccer atmosphere that fans bring to games. In addition to two MLS Cups, RFK has hosted several memorable soccer matches including World Cup games in 1994, Olympic men’s soccer in 1996, the 2002 and 2004 MLS All-Star games and 18 U.S. Men’s National team matches. DCSEC also plans to host upcoming concerts, festivals and other sporting activities at the stadium.
The championship game will be televised live to a national audience on ABC and distributed internationally. |
