TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLPARK!

DC SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT COMMISSION HOSTS LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUTH

(Washington, DC) - It was an opportunity of a lifetime for two dozen pint-size students from Tots Developmental and Benning Elementary Schools.  On a recent tour hosted by the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission, students had a chance to see first hand the construction site of the new Washington Nationals Ballpark.  Adding to their excitement, these young ballpark visitors donned construction hats, got a chance to sit in stadium seats, marveled at the ball field and hung out in the dugout.  For most, this was the first time they had ever visited a baseball stadium and will probably be the start of a new and exciting experience.

“This field trip to the construction site of the ballpark was a wonderful chance to expose these youth to our national pastime at an early age as well as teach them the value of hard work and build self-confidence,” said Gregory A. O’Dell, chief executive officer of the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission.

The Nationals will play the first game of the 2008 season when they take on the Baltimore Orioles in an Exhibition Game on Saturday, March 29 at 6:00 p.m.  The team will open its regular season on the following evening when they play host to the Atlanta Braves in a nationally televised game at 8:05 p.m. on ESPN.   President George W. Bush is expected to throw out the first pitch.  As the new home for the Washington Nationals, the ballpark will be an important and exciting new development for the District and for the Greater Washington region.

The DC Sports and Entertainment Commission, an independent agency of the District of Columbia government, is responsible for the management and operation of Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, the D.C. Armory and their adjacent facilities.  The Commission is also charged with presenting and promoting sports, entertainment and special events.  For more information, visit us at http://www.WashDCSports.com.
