DC Sports and Entertainment Commission Projects Largest Crowd Ever as Stone Soul Picnic Opens at RFK Stadium Festival Grounds

18th Annual Event features live performances, cultural foods and children’s activities

(Washington, DC) – The DC Sports and Entertainment Commission (DCSEC) projects the largest crowd ever as the 18th annual Stone Soul Picnic opens this Saturday, August 9th at RFK Stadium Festival Grounds from 12-8 pm.  The DCSEC expects more than 200,000 people to attend this free event hosted by Radio One.

The Stone Soul Picnic will feature live entertainment from national and local recording artists including Jeff Majors, Marvin Sapp, James Fortune, Eric Benet, Tamia, JOE, Raphael Saadiq, Solange Knowles, Jazmine Sullivan and many more.  It will also offer a voter registration drive, ethnic marketplace, cultural foods and children’s activities.

“We are very pleased to continue our lasting partnership with organizations like Radio One that are committed to supporting local community events,” said Erik A. Moses, DC Sports and Entertainment Commission chief executive officer. “The Stone Soul Picnic is just one of the ways DCSEC plans to expand its reach to provide full service sporting and entertainment activities for District residents.”

The Stone Soul Picnic marks the 10th event the DCSEC has hosted on the RFK Festival Grounds this year.  The annual event was created by Radio One Founder and CEO Cathy Hughes and has been held at RFK Stadium since 1991.

“We do this event every year because it’s our way of giving back to our listeners as well as an opportunity for businesses to have one-on-one interaction with potential consumers in the community,” said Vice President and General Manager Michele Williams.

“This event is free to the public and we encourage all to attend what will be a memorable and exciting family affair,” added Moses.

Patrons can ride metro, using the Stadium-Armory stop.  Parking for those who drive will be available on Lots 3, 6, and 7.

The Stone Soul Picnic is hosted by WKYS-FM (93.9), WMMJ-FM (Majic 102.3), WPRS-FM (Praise 104.1), WYCB-AM (Spirit 1340), WOL-AM (1450).

Media interested in covering the 18th Annual Stone Soul Picnic must R.S.V.P to Shelia Stewart at 443-629-0108 or sstewart@radio-one.com no later than Thursday, August 7, 2008.

All confirmed press will receive their credentials at the event during check-in. One-on-one interviews with artists will not be granted.
