DC Sports & Entertainment Commission (DCSEC) Sponsors the Anacostia Community Boathouse Association’s 2nd Annual Youth River Sports Day
(Washington, DC) – The DC Sports and Entertainment Commission (DCSEC) joins the Anacostia Community Boathouse Association (ACBA) to host the 2nd annual Youth River Sports Day this Saturday, August 23, 2008. The free community event is aimed at teaching rowing, paddling, building healthy bodies and an environmentally-friendly river. The event will take place from 10:00 am-2:00 pm at 1115 O Street, SE, next to the Washington Navy Yard.
Since 2005, DCSEC has sponsored the ACBA as part of its commitment to help build a strong community through outreach programs and recreational activities.
“This is another way for the Sports and Entertainment Commission to give back to the community and our constituents,” said Erik A. Moses, DC Sports and Entertainment Commission chief executive officer. “We’re proud to join the Anacostia Community Boathouse Association for this free event that encourages youngsters to get involved in athletic activities that enrich their lives as well as help them to get fit and healthy.”
The Youth River Sports Day is for individuals of all ages and will offer rowing and paddling instruction, guided river tours, education about pollution prevention and other hands-on learning experiences that promote physical health and environmental awareness. Participants should plan to spend about two hours and should wear athletic clothing, socks and sneakers. Sunscreen, water bottles, and sunglasses are recommended if it's sunny.

The Anacostia Community Boathouse Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering safe and environmentally responsible recreation on the Anacostia River by maintaining a community boathouse used by a variety of member organizations, including four high school rowing crews, community rowing clubs, and college rowing crews. Founded on a vigorous spirit of volunteerism, the ACBA has been an integral part of the growth of Washington’s rowing and paddling community – while working to create a premier center for rowing and paddling training and competition. |
